Energy Code Analysis

In order to properly size your HVAC system and to maximize your energy efficiency, Heavy Timber Truss & Frame provides a home energy analysis (Manual J) as part of our design-build service. Using the exact components in your home a Manual J calculates the required size of the heating and cooling equipment in more detail then just square footage. It takes into consideration the insulation of walls, floors, and roofs. The calculations are based on the Model Energy Code guidelines and are readily usable by local HVAC contractors to specify the most efficient system for your new home. By properly sizing HVAC equipment using ASHRAE methodology, smaller systems can be specified, which in turn reduces the upfront cost.

Too often we have seen systems over-sized based on "old habits” and lack of information. The result is larger furnaces and cooling units that cycle excessively, rather than running consistently where they perform at peak efficiency. Proper HVAC sizing is essential to the efficient operation of the system, and will generate long term savings with a system that operates efficiently. Because SIP buildings have such low levels of air infiltration, smaller systems should be specified, and duct runs can often be reduced.
